While the show of four monologues called Eight might confuse you briefly, it's safe to say everyone will find something entertaining in this mix of monologues.
West Bridgford Dramatic Society do fantastic work with their venue, and it's certainly suited to an evening of monologues. A few quick and simple changes as a simple black box with a chair and some lighting is all you need to frame the performance.
The standout of this production is undoubtedly Jen White as Bobby, unreservedly down to earth and the most endearing and convincing of all the characters. Few actors could hold a stage hanging Christmas lights, but Jen and director Rosie Randall make the whole process look easy.
There is plenty of entertaining tragedy from Andre, portrayed by Matthew Thomason, with a character that could hardly be more removed from Bobby and while at an extreme is always kept just far enough from becoming absurd. Danny and Buttons make up the remaining half of the show, though these feel like they needed a little more time, or perhaps a different eye, to have quite the same impact. But the stories are interesting all the same, and with four performances to see there are always going to be highs and lows.
